HONORIS CAUSA PROF. GROSMANN

Professor Ignacio E. Grossmann was appointed honorary doctorate from the University of Alicante on June 28, 2018 after the proposal of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Polytechnic School in collaboration with the University Institute of Chemical Process Engineering, with whom Prof. Grossmann has maintained a close collaboration since 1999 in the field of Industrial Process Optimization through the research group COnCEPT (Computer Optimization of Chemical Engineering Processes and Technologies) led by Prof. Jose Antonio Caballero, as shown by the more than 40 articles published jointly in internationally Chemical Engineering journals such as AIChE, Computers and Chemical Engineering, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, etc.

 

Prof. Grossmann is an international reference researcher in the field of Chemical Engineering, especially in the areas of Optimization, Synthesis and Planning of Industrial Processes, and Mathematical Programming. He currently works at Rudolph R. and Florence Dean University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also a co-founder member of the Carnegie Mellon University "Center for Advanced Process Decision-making" research center, with 20 international companies, including petrochemical, chemical and engineering companies. He is a member of the American Academy of Engineering, the Mexican Academy of Engineering, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences, the Society for Mathematical Optimization and the American Society of Chemistry, as well as associate editor from different internationally research journals, in the field of Optimization, Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering. He has published more than 700 research articles in internationally journals and he has directed 58 doctoral thesis. He has also produced several case studies on process design case studies, and the coaching book "Systematic Methods of Chemical Process Design," with Larry Biegler and Art Westerberg. He has also received a large number of awards, such as 5 Doctor Honoris Causa from the following universities: Kazan National Research Technological University (Russia, 2016), University of Cantabria (Spain, 2016), Technical University of Dortmund (Germany, 2012), University of Maribor (Slovenia, 2007) and Abo Akademi (Finland, 2002). He has named as one of the 100 Engineers of the Modern Era (AIChE, 2008).
